Frustration in Pokémon Go is a unique move that can only be removed or forgotten at certain times.

The move is used by shadow Pokémon upon being caught by default, and can only be removed during Team Go Rocket-specific 'Taken Over' events with the use of a Charged TM.

This guide explains when you can next remove Frustration in Pokémon Go, and how to remove Frustration when the window arises.

When can you next forget Frustration in Pokémon Go?

Frustration can be removed when a Team Go Rocket 'Taken Over' event is active in the game.

The next Team Go Rocket event, 'Precious Pals: Taken Over', runs Friday, January 23rd and Sunday, January 25th.

If you miss the window, 'Taken Over' events appear once per Pokémon Go season, with the next season running between March and May. Frustratingly (pun intended), since the spacing out of these events throughout the year isn't even, we can't estimate when exactly during the next season it might be; 2025 saw 'Taken Over' events appear in January, May, August and September, for example.

It's also worth noting, in very rare circumstances, Frustration can also be removed at other times. In 2025's case, this was November's 'Into The Wild' as part of Go Wild Area 2025.

How to remove Frustration in Pokémon Go

To remove Frustration from a shadow Pokémon, go to the Pokémon's status screen, select Items from the corner menu, then select either a Charged TM or Elite Charged TM.

If you're outside of a 'Taken Over' event, the item will be greyed out, and a message saying the Pokémon "cannot forget Frustration" will be displayed.

If you are playing during a 'Taken Over' event and Frustration cannot be removed, try closing and reopening the game (which is a useful rule of thumb for when anything doesn't work as it should, such as getting the Daily Adventure Incense to show in-game when you haven't used it yet).

💡
A bonus tip: while you will likely have the shadow Pokémon in mind you want to remove Frustration from, if you search @frustration in your Pokémon collection, you'll see every creature which has the move currently held.
