Power Spot appearances now reduced most days in Pokémon Go

Outside of Max Mondays and Max Battle Days, expect to see fewer Power Spots near you.

The number of Power Spots appearing in Pokémon Go across the week have been reduced following the recent ‘Daily Discoveries’ update.

As part of a change to the weekly Max Monday event - where the hour-long focus on one specific Dynamax Pokémon in the evening is now a day-long activity involving multiple Pokémon - the availability of Power Spots "will be limited outside of Max Mondays and Max Battles Days”, according to Niantic.

Inactive Power Spots will also no longer show up "most days", according to the official support site.

While the mention of "additional Power Spots" for Max Monday suggested only a meaningful adjustment during the weekly event, a number of players online have encountered a notable drop in Power Spot numbers in the days since.

It’s something I've observed too: playing in Cardiff at midday today (Thursday), I could only see two Power Spots while in the city centre - something unusual for a dense urban location.

This reduction could have an impact on acquiring certain resources that Power Spots handily provide. For example. visiting a Power Spot is a welcome source of Max Particles for powering up Max Moves, and for those working on fully powering up Pokémon, Dynamax encounters offer a guaranteed way to earn XL Candy for the creatures you face.

Meanwhile, research and challenges which involve Power Spots - such as the "win 100 Max Battles" requirement for Level 77 - will now likely take longer to complete.

‘Daily Discoveries’ rolled out alongside the ‘Memories in Motion’ season and the 'Pokémon 30th Anniversary' event on Tuesday, 3rd March. As well as the Max Monday change, there are increases to Incense and Lure Module durations on Sundays, PokéStop Showcases becoming a Tuesday-only activity, and a number of trade bonuses on Fridays.
