'Road to Kalos' is a week-long event building up to Pokémon Go’s ‘Go Tour: Kalos Global’ on 28th February and 1st March.

Running between Monday, 23rd February and Friday, 27th February (midnight to midnight local time), 'Road to Kalos' is a “rewind” of Go Tours of years’ past, with each day of the week revisiting previous Pokémon generations.

With wild spawns, Raids, featured attacks and Special Backgrounds changing each day - and in some cases, multiple times per day - it’s a busy and slightly overwhelming week. But we can help! Below is an easy-to-digest breakdown of what is happening and when.

If you want to also weigh it up against other events in the week (Max Monday, Spotlight Hour, and more) our Pokémon Go newsletter with a guide to the week ahead can help.

'Road to Kalos' schedule

What follows is a day-by-day breakdown of each day’s Pokémon, featured attacks, and their Special Backgrounds.

Important notes about 'Road to Kalos's daily rotation

From Monday to Friday, a new generation will get the spotlight, with new wild spawns, Raid encounters, featured attacks and Special Backgrounds coming into rotation. A detailed schedule that breaks down the event day-by-day follows this section, but here’s some notes before we begin:

  • All mentioned wild spawns and Raids are shiny eligible.
  • The wild spawns listed are only those which have been confirmed by Niantic ahead of time: there’s a decent chance other Pokémon from each generation will appear on their respective day.
  • Each set of five-star Pokémon will feature in a Raid Hour that day between 6pm to 7pm. Currently active legendary Lunala is also showing up on Wednesday as part of the usual Raid Hour slot.
  • For the Thursday and Friday Raid rotations, encounters will swap every hour, with the exception of the Raid Hour (6pm to 7pm) which change at the half hour mark.
  • Featured Attacks from Raid Pokémon are guaranteed, apart from Roar of Time (Origin Forme Dialga), Spacial Rend (Origin Forme Palkia), and Charged Attack Glaciate (Kyurem).
  • For Special Backgrounds, remember it’s only a chance you’ll receive them. Good luck getting both a shiny and a background on your desired Pokémon this week, let alone one with Roar or Time, Spacial Rend, and Glaciate. (And if you get one with poor stats after that, well, that’s what Hyper Training is for.)
  • If you’re simply after new catches and aren’t worried about Special Backgrounds this week, Monday and Tuesday’s one-star raid encounters (Pikachu wearing Red’s hat, Leaf’s hat, Ethan’s hat and Lyra’s hat) are all new debuts to Pokémon Go.
  • Each costumed Pikachu will also appear in Timed Research and Field Research for that given day, but will not have a chance of having a Special Background - those are Raid Pikachu exclusive.

Monday, 23rd February (Kanto / Gen 1)

Tuesday, 24th February (Johto / Gen 2)

Wednesday, 25th February (Hoenn / Gen 3)

Thursday, 26th February (Sinnoh / Gen 4)

Friday, 27th February (Unova / Gen 5)

'Road to Kalos' Special Backgrounds

One of the more appealing features of the 'Road to Kalos' event is an array of Special Backgrounds unique to each generation (or in the case of Kanto on Monday, Pokémon Go’s three teams Mystic, Instinct, and Valor) that have a chance of being appearing behind any caught one-star or five-star Raid Pokémon during the week.

The full schedule of when they appear is in the previous section, and you can see what all Special Backgrounds look like in the following image:
