Evolving Toxel allows you to add different forms of Toxtricity to your Pokédex in Pokémon Go.

The baby electric- and poison-type Pokémon can evolve into either Toxtricity's Low Key form or Amped form, but there's no indication in-game which you'll get.

This guide explains how Toxel's evolution works in Pokémon Go, and some ways to work around it if you want a specific version of Toxtricity.

How to evolve Toxel into Toxtricity Low Key or Amped forms in Pokémon Go

To evolve Toxel into Toxtricity, you first need 400 Candy. From there, the outcome of evolving Toxel into either Toxtricity's Low Key or Amped form is random - meaning there's no way to influence or gauge ahead of time which form you'll get.

This is not unlike Wurple's evolution, where the two possible evolutions are also random, so if you want a specific Toxtricity, then you must keep evolving Toxel in order to get the outcome you want. The difference here, however, is Wurple is a common Pokémon with a low Candy evolution requirement, while Toxel appears in Eggs and requires a massive 400 Candy to evolve. It's much more frustrating when the dice roll doesn't go your way!

The kicker to this random outcome is that, in the main games, you can get Low Key or Amped forms by influencing Toxel's nature - a characteristic which doesn't exist in Pokémon Go.

If you're struggling to fill in both Pokédex entries as part of this process - or simply want to save Candy and guarantee the one you want to get - then you can circumvent this by receiving the desired form through a trade from a friend.

Finally, know that both Toxtricity forms have appeared in raids and Max Battles to be caught directly. Though this was mainly during the 2024 and 2025 Go Wild Area events, it's possible these forms might make a comeback in battles in future.
