"What's Your Favourite?" is a photo mode tying into Pokémon Go's 10th anniversary and Pokémon's 30th anniversary celebrations.
Released following a celeb-filled 2026 Superbowl spot on 9th February - where a singing Lady Gaga to Ferrari F1 driver Charles Leclerc reveal their number one creatures - the feature allows you to pose and share your favourite Pokémon with the world.
Even if Pokémon Go photo modes aren't your cup of tea, using it even once will unlock bonus 'What's Your Favourite' Special Research for you to claim. This page explains where you can find the 'What's Your Favourite' photo mode feature, and the in-game rewards for taking part.
How to use the 'What's Your Favourite?' photo mode in Pokémon Go
There are two ways to access the 'What's Your Favourite?' anniversary photo feature in Pokémon Go:
- If logged out of Pokémon Go, it can be found at the bottom of the screen when you first open the app
- If logged into Pokémon Go, open the menu (tap the Poké Ball in the bottom centre of the screen), then the Camera icon in the bottom left, then the 'What's Your Favourite?' icon

From there, you're presented with a grid of Pokémon to choose from. You can pick from just about any creature in the game, whether you have caught them or not - we picked Hawaii-regional Comfey as an experiment - or select one at random with the 'Surprise!' button.
(Niantic says costumed Pokémon, Mega Evolutions, Gigantamax Pokémon and so on aren't available, even if you have them in your inventory.)
From there, you'll see a reel of photos with your chosen Pokémon in a variety of positions and poses. There's no way to customise any of these, so it's just scrolling through and picking what works. From there, you can add some stickers, then share or add the picture to your camera roll.

'What's Your Favourite?' Special Research tasks and rewards list
Once you have sampled the 'What's Your Favourite?' feature, then you'll receive the titular Special Research as a reward.
'What's Your Favourite?' Special Research tasks
- Claim Reward! (reward: 100 Stardust)
End rewards: 10,000 Stardust, 5 Rare Candy, 1 Lucky Egg
In short, there's no tasks to complete: you simply have to claim the rewards. Not bad for about 60 seconds work from start to finish.
Meanwhile, if you're a new Pokémon Go player, using 'What's Your Favourite?' within three days of creating your account grants a few bonus rewards - including 100 PokéCoins and an encounter with Gengar.
Why the 'What's Your Favourite?' Special Research isn't showing for you
If 'What's Your Favourite?' Special Research doesn't appear, know you have to use the feature while logged into your account - the 'logged out' method of the two above won't work.

You may also have to actually save a photo, then close and reopen the app for it to show - which is what we had to do after taking our Comfey photoshoot.
Finally, if you are getting a "this feature is not supported on this device" prompt, you're not alone - plenty of others (mainly those on Android) are seeing the same on reddit. Fingers crossed Niantic is working on a fix.
