Subscription tiers, editorial offering and advertising
As well as the below, our Welcome post and Ethics Policy are worth reading for editorial goals and policies around One More Catch.
What will appear in the One More Catch newsletter?
The newsletter will have two components - a weekly digest for Pokémon Go, and features exploring the world of Pokémon.
The Monday newsletter will break down the week ahead: new events, debut Pokémon, what to expect from regularly occurring in-game features (Raid Hour, Spotlight Hour, and so on), and a list of opportunities worth your time. There will also be a brief news round up, and a highlight of notable coverage on the site for you to check out. It’s everything you need to plan your week ahead in Pokémon Go, while keeping you informed on bigger happenings.
Other mailouts will be more about deeper reads and analysis on a specific topic. It could be a targeted guide, original reporting, a community or developer interview, a review of a new addition or event, or simply a fun feature.
You can also read all of these on the website if you prefer by logging into your account tied to your email address.
When will newsletters be available each week?
The weekly Pokémon Go digest will arrive every Monday by lunchtime for those in UK and Europe, or by 9am for those on the East Coast of the Americas, in time for you to effectively plan your adventures from the start of the week.
Other newsletters that explore the world of Pokémon will be a little more freeform. The plan is to send them in the second half of the week - depending on events and new features debuting, possible embargoes, and other factors - with the aim for two of these pieces a month to be only accessible by paid subscribers.
So though most weeks you should receive both a weekly digest and a feature newsletter, I want this to be flexible. Some weeks might be quieter or busier than others (the end of February's double whammy of Pokémon Day and Go Tour is a good example of the latter) and either way, my plan is to not swamp your inbox.
How do paid subscriptions work?
As well as a free tier for signing up to the newsletter, there are several paid tiers available:
- The entry paid tier (Good Supporter) is the core site experience. This grants access to almost all paid posts, hosted on the site and sent via the newsletter mailing list, as well as the ability to comment on articles.
- The next paid tier (Great Supporter) is the complete site experience. As well as the above, it includes ad-free browsing, full text RSS (coming soon), and a bonus quarterly newsletter, 'Behind the Catch', offering a behind-the-scenes look at what it's like running a small, independent publication. I also hope to offer trial versions of new site features through this tier, allowing you to offer your input and shape things before they go out to other readers.
- The highest paid tier (Ultra Supporter), is for those who want to show even more support. As well as the bonuses in previous tiers, you get your name in the 'Special Thanks' page on the site as a thank you for chucking in a few extra quid / bucks for your extra support.
How I’ve landed on the above: I want to make it both manageable for me to produce, but also affordable and good value for you, as readers. The lowest tier essentially unlocks the core site experience, while later tiers add additional functionality and a quarterly newsletter with beyond-the-scenes insight for the independent media heads, and at its highest, your name in lights.
How many bonus articles will there be for subscribers?
The plan at launch is to offer at least two articles for paying subscribers a month, available via the newsletter mailing list and the website. The aim is to publish these every other week (or once a fortnight), though this exact timing may change based on what’s happening in-game, embargoes, and other factors where adjusting the publish time makes sense.
Additionally, those in the Great Supporter tier and above will receive the quarterly newsletter / blog post ‘Behind the Catch’.
Will you add more to the subscriber content or features over time?
I'd like to! If things go well, my hope is to scale up and introduce additional articles (both for free and for subscribers) and site features, with the plan is to trial select new ideas for Great Supporters before they're permanently introduced, assuming they’re valuable and feasible - which are things I may discuss in the quarterly 'Behind the Catch' newsletter).
If you have any thoughts or suggestions for new features, I’d love to hear them at contact@onemorecatch.site.
Why is the 'Behind the Catch' newsletter quarterly?
Primarily, because publishing four times a year means it’ll feature a meaningful amount of insight into how things are going for the site and what I’m thinking of doing next. It also means, to be transparent, that I'm not burying myself in too much extra work.
In terms of when it’ll arrive, it’ll be towards the end of each three-month cycle (so March, June, September, and December), though I may move the date a little depending on what I have to share.
When will full text RSS arrive?
Available for Great Supporters and higher, the aim is to get full text RSS functionality ready by the end of March 2026. Thanks for your patience, and will update readers when it's ready to go.
How does Ultra Supporter tier 'Special Thanks' benefit work?
For Ultra Supporter subscribers, your name will appear on the 'Special Thanks' page. If you do this in the first year, it'll be under the 'Founder Thanks' section.
There is no minimum subscription length required to be added to this list - just a single month's support is enough to be added as a token of my thanks.
Your name will be whatever you use during sign up, but if you want to amend it, be removed (or that I've missed you!) please message support@onemorecatch.site with the headline 'Special Thanks' and I’ll get things sorted.
I can't afford a subscription - are there any other ways I can show support?
Not a problem - times are tough right now! The good news is most content is freely accessible, and subscribing to the free Monday newsletter and using the site for your Pokémon Go needs is a big help in growing our audience. You can also:
- Share our work with friends, your local Pokémon Go community in-person and online, and through social media (this helps more than you’d expect!)
- Whitelist the website on your ad-blocker
- Follow us on our various other platforms, including Bluesky and YouTube
Finally, if you cannot afford a rolling or annual subscription but want to send a one-off tip, that's an option too.
Why do you host on-site ads and occasional newsletter sponsorships?
I'd love to offer an ad-free website and a newsletter free of sponsors, but the reality is that paying subscribers alone isn't enough to run a sustainable publication, especially if I want a sufficient amount of content to be free to all readers coming in directly or from search engines like Google. This is a decision I reached after seeking the advice of many other independent media owners out there. If you want to know more about the adverts and newsletter sponsors themselves, you can do so in our Ethics Policy.)
If you enjoy our work but don't want to see ads, your extra support in the Great Supporter tier and above will remove on-site ads. (Note that newsletter sponsorships are baked into the body copy of the Monday newsletter, so can’t be removed.)
What will the One More Catch YouTube channel cover?
At launch, our YouTube channel is primarily designed to supplement the written output in the newsletter and website with gameplay footage for features and guides, but they're also edited to be consumed in their own right.
I may consider expanding what we can do here at some point - and would be interested in your thoughts if you have them! - but my focus is mainly on the written word for the time being.
Where can I send feedback or tips?
You can send feedback and tips to contact@onemorecatch.site, by sending a message over Bluesky, or if you want to talk more confidentially, over Signal at mattreyn.57.
If you have another subscription-related question not answered here, message support@onemorecatch.site and I'll do my best to answer.
Payments, accounts, and newsletter support
The following relates to account queries: subscribing, unsubscribing, charging and refunds.
How do I subscribe and log in?
Whether it's for the free newsletter or a paid subscription, you can subscribe by visiting this link, or clicking the ‘Subscribe’ button at the top of the site.
Here is also where you can find the Log In button, where you'll be sent a 'magic link' to your email inbox to log in; no passwords required.
How are paid subscriptions charged, and do they renew automatically?
You can decide to pay monthly or annually when first signing up, with the latter seeing a small discount (10 months for the price of 12) for paying upfront for the year ahead.
Subscriptions renew automatically. If you prefer, you can opt to pre-emptively cancel a subscription by following the steps below. You'll still get access for the period you've already paid for, with the end date displaying once you've cancelled your subscription.
How do I cancel my paid subscription?
First, log into your account on the site, click the Account button, then the Plans button. The Cancel subscription button is at the bottom. You'll continue to get access to your paid services until your subscription period ends (unless if you are want a refund within the first 14 days of signing up, in which case see the next step on this page).
Note that you'll still receive Monday’s newsletter after your subscription ends. If you want to be removed from the mailing list, the steps are below.
What if I want a refund?
One More Catch doesn't offer refunds for subscriptions after 14 days. If you want to end a subscription within the first 14 day period, send an email to support@onemorecatch.site with your details and I'll issue one for you. (There's no mechanism within Ghost(Pro), our hosting platform, to do this yourself, so apologies for the extra step required here.)
How do I unsubscribe to the newsletter?
You can unsubscribe in two ways:
- Log into your account on the site, click the Account button, then Email preferences.
- Alternatively, click the 'Unsubscribe' button found at the bottom of each newsletter.
Note that unsubscribing to the newsletter doesn't cancel any active subscriptions, meaning you can still log into the site and access paid-for features with your account.
How do I change my billing info?
First, log into your account on the site, click the Account button, then the Billing info button.
If you have another account-based query not answered here, contact support@onemorecatch.site for additional help.
