Pokémon Champions, a game designed as the home of competitive Pokémon, has been given a release date of Wednesday, 8th April on Nintendo Switch.

The release date announcement also confirmed a free Nintendo Switch 2 update at launch, offering "enhanced visual performance". Pokémon Champions will also release on mobiles with cross-platform battling sometime later this year.

The free-to-play game, which can connect to Pokémon Home to use qualifying Pokémon from mainline games and Pokémon Go, will also offer a Starter Pack bundle on day one, featuring additional in-game bonuses to "support early progression" as well as extra Pokémon storage space and an extra battle song.

As well as a new overview trailer - see above - the latest press release also revealed eight new screenshots - see below - and confirmation that Pokémon Champions will be the "primary platform" for the Video Game Championships at Play! Pokémon events, starting with the Indianapolis Regional Championships from 29th May, leading up to the Pokémon World Championships in August.
