'Precious Pals' event guide in Pokémon Go

'Precious Pals' is a Pokémon Go event which offers a variety of bonuses when walking with your Buddy Pokémon.

Running between Tuesday, 20th January at 10am local time until Sunday, 25th January at 7:59pm, expect to receive additional hearts and XL Candy with your chosen Buddy, as well as reduced special evolution requirements for three Pokémon - Eevee, Pancham, and Pawmo.

There's also two 'Precious Pals' Collection Challenges to complete, and the debut of shiny Fidough and evolution Dachsbun - they say dogs are man's best friend, after all.

A note that 'Precious Pals' becomes a Team Go Rocket 'Taken Over' event from Friday, 23rd January, which is worth keeping in mind as we head into the weekend - especially if you have any Pokémon with Frustration to remove.

'Precious Pals' shiny debuts and increased shiny chances

The headline shiny debuts in 'Precious Pals' are:

• The debut of shiny Fidough and evolution Dachsbun
  • Fidough can be found in the wild, 2km Eggs, completing Premium Timed Research and Collection Challenges, and "Earn a Candy exploring with your Buddy" Field Research during the event.
• An "increased chance" to encounter shiny Goldeen
  • Goldeen can be found in the wild and in 2km Eggs during the event.

There's also an "increased chance" to hatch shiny Fidough and Goldeen in Eggs (both found in 2km Eggs during the event). In short - focus your attention on wild encounters and 2km Eggs to maximise your chances of finding both.

'Precious Pals' Buddy event bonuses and reduced evolution requirements

The 'Precious Pals' event bonuses all revolve around your Buddy Pokémon, with a mixture of increased rewards for any chosen Pokémon, and reduced evolution requirements for three specific creatures:

• Additional Candy XL when walking with your Buddy Pokémon
• Additional hearts available for your Buddy (can now play and Snapshot three times for up to three hearts per day, for example)
• Reduced special evolution requirements for:
  • Eevee into Sylveon (20 hearts as your Buddy, down from 70)
  • Pancham into Pangoro (catching 10 Dark-type Pokémon, down from 32)
  • Pawmo into Pawmot (explore 5 km with Pawmo as your Buddy, down from 25km)

'Precious Pals' Egg pool

During 'Precious Pals', 2km Eggs will feature the following Pokémon. All have a chance of being shiny, with Fidough and Goldeen in particular having an "increased chance" during the event:

• Fidough
• Goldeen
• Happiny
• Riolu
• Togepi

'Precious Pals' Field Research tasks

The following event-specific Field Research will be available by spinning PokéStops. As with all Field Research, there's no expiry for when you need to complete these - meaning you can hold onto them until after the event ends:

• Earn a Candy exploring with your Buddy (reward: Fidough encounter)
• Give your buddy 1 treats (reward: 5 Razz Berry / 5 Pinap Berry / 5 Nanab Berry)
• Take a Snapshot with your Buddy (reward: Eevee or Pawmi encounter)

• Earn 10 hearts with your buddy (reward: Swablu encounter)
• Earn 15 hearts with your buddy (reward: Pancham encounter)
• Feed your buddy 1 times (reward: Magikarp encounter)
• Feed your buddy 3 times (reward: Espurr encounter)
• Take a snapshot with your buddy (reward: 1 Poffin)
