Orthworm, the Earthworm Pokémon, has debuted in Pokémon Go as part of April 2026's 'Steeled Resolve' event.
The Gen 9 Steel-type is a raid-only Pokémon during the event, and in an uncommon move, can be shiny from day one.
This page explains how to get Orthworm, what a shiny Orthworm looks like, and how to get more Orthworm Candy to help you power one up.
How to get Orthworm in the 'Steeled Resolve' 2026 event
There is only one way to get Orthworm in its Pokémon Go debut:
- Three-star raids during the 'Steeled Resolve' 2026 event
With 16153 CP, you can solo a three-star raid with half-decent counters (go for Fire-, Ground- or Fighting-Types), which means you don't have to rely on other trainers locally or through remote raids to get one.

Though not confirmed, once the event is over Orthworm will almost certainly leave the game temporarily, and will return in a future event.
As it's only around for a short time, you'll likely want to encounter more than one in a bid to get its shiny. Here's what you're looking for...
Can Orthworm be shiny in Pokémon Go?
Yes, Orthworm can be shiny on its debut, and it's one of the more dramatic differences, turning its red plated armour into a light blue:

As for the shiny rates, its understood a raid Pokémon like Orthworm is one in 64.
How to get more Orthworm Candy in Pokémon Go
Though Orthworm cannot evolve, you might want some extra Candy if you wanted to power it up for battle. Here's a few methods to get extra Candy gains, including:
- Use a Pinap Berry while catching
- Have a Mega Evolution active while raiding (as a raid-only Pokémon, type doesn't matter)
- Have Orthworm as your Buddy Pokémon (it'll drop Candy every 5km)
- Transfer any caught Orthworm you don't want to keep
- Trade any caught Orthworm you don't want to keep
- And if all else fails, you can always turn to Rare Candy to make up the difference
In summary, there are quite a few methods to squeeze out extra Candy here and there, meaning you don't have to rely purely on raids to get more.
