Welcome to the latest One More Catch weekly newsletter, offering you a guide to the week ahead in Pokémon Go.
It's a Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK, meaning this newsletter has been largely written in advance so I can spend my Easter Sunday and Monday scoffing down chocolate eggs. Hopefully Niantic hasn't dropped any major news since scheduling - especially as this week is already looking on the quiet side, despite featuring one of the most anticipated Community Days in some time.
So here's a snapshot of everything coming to Pokémon Go in the days ahead, the biggest opportunities available, and a roundup of Pokémon news you may have missed.
One More Catch's weekly newsletter is open to sponsorships! Want word of your game, product, or business to reach a group of ardent Pokémon fans? Get in touch!

Opportunities this week
It's another largely eventless week, but thankfully, the new raid line-up and Community Day deliver.
- The Tinkatink Community Day is the big draw of the week, taking place on Saturday. Though the (unspectacular) shiny debuted during November's Go Wild Area event, as with all Community Days this is an easy way of amassing a handful of shinies, plus finding some with decent stats and collecting enough Candy and XL Candy to then fully power them up.

- Final stage evolution Tinkaton is half decent as it stands, but the new Community Day move Gigaton Hammer changes things somewhat: it has a colossal 300 attack power (up there with most Max Battle moves), albeit at the cost of a significant cooldown. It means it won't beat Steel-type staple Metagross when it comes to PvE (non-Go Battle League fights such as raids) but as a non-shadow, Mega or legendary Steel-type, it's second best.
- In other words, if you're a new or lapsed player, it's the perfect opportunity to get a strong Steel-type for cheap. For everyone else with a Metagross or three it's less pressing, but as someone who adored the Tinkatink line in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, I'm clearing my afternoon to get a decent one.
- Some extra Community Day tips:
- Don't forget to have a Mega Evolution active for additional Catch Candy. You'll want either Aggron, Altaria, Audino, Diancie, Gardevoir, Lucario, Mawile, Metagross, Scizor, or Steelix - whichever one you have most levelled up.
- Save catching any rare or evolved Pokemon from Field Research or the Go Pass until the event hours to take advantage of the 2x Catch Candy bonus.
- If you've yet to reach Platinum on either Fairy or Steel catch medals, or are stuck on step three of Go Tour's 'Sparkle and Shine' Special Research, this Community Day is the perfect chance to make decent progress.

- Finally, this week's raid refresh sees Kyogre in five-star raids from Wednesday. The Gen 3 Water-type is an old-timer as far as Pokémon Go legendaries go, but it remains the best Water-type attacker going, especially when you factor in the Primal Reversion version (which it can evolve into with the relevant energy, which doesn't drop this week). Kyogre is essential, in other words, so its return is always a welcome one.
- Battle this for extra Candy and XL Candy, or get yourself one with good stats if you haven't already. Remember Kyogre appears in higher numbers during Wednesday's Raid Hour, too.
What's new in Pokémon and Pokémon Go?
Here's a catch-up on news from Pokémon Go and the wider world of Pokémon:
- The big talking point is the appearance of a virtual auto-catcher in datamines. If you're not familiar, these are devices which catch Pokémon and spin PokéStops for you, and as explained in our recent Go Plus piece, are powerful devices that make playing Pokémon Go much easier.
- The idea of an in-game auto catcher is an interesting one: opening up its features to more players (Go Plus devices sell out quickly) is a real positive, especially with added perks like not worrying about charging the device every few weeks. But there might be strings attached, especially in this period of increased Pokémon Go monetisation we find ourselves in, such as it only appearing for a limited time in monthly Go Passes. So we'll have to wait and see.
- As expected, Pokémon Go did indeed continue its run of April Fools' Day jokes with the surprise release of Mimikyu. As well as spawning in the wild from Wednesday, it also featured in the day's Spotlight Hour event alongside Pikachu. If you're reading this newsletter on Monday, you still have time to catch one - otherwise, you'll likely have to wait for a future event.

- Pokémon Pokopia, meanwhile, featured a quiz on 1st April which ended in a Inflatable Sudowoodo item giveaway. It takes less than five minutes to unlock - continuing Pokopia's run of events being on the breezy side - and is worth time travelling back to if you haven't logged into the game since Wednesday.

- Finally, if you live in London, Paris, or Berlin, The Pokémon Company has made pop-up gardens in each city to celebrate the release of Pokopia. Their small size means they might not be worth going out the way for, even if their terrariums look rather cute. If you do fancy going, there's new PokéStops and Gyms as an added bonus.

One More Catch notes
Here's a quick round-up of other site posts, updates, and publication-related musings:
- Pokémon Champions continues to be a big focus for One More Catch. With the competitive spin-off launching on Nintendo Switch devices on Wednesday, expect a small handful of explainers throughout the week. As someone with a passing interest in the world of competitive Pokémon, but has struggled to make serious inroads, I'm quite interested to see how this game turns out.
- In the meantime, I put together an explainer on why you should start transferring your Pokémon Go creatures ahead of time, plus whether CP and IVs matter, and a list of viable creatures for day one:

- As mentioned last week, the next quarterly Behind the Catch blog (which provides a behind-the-scenes look into how One More Catch is made, and what's coming next) is launching in the middle of the month, in large part due to it clashing with the Pokémon Champions launch. Thanks again for your patience here - expect a debrief of the site launch, with thoughts on what worked and what didn't, and a tease of new additions to the publication when it arrives in your inbox.
As is tradition, we end the newsletter with a gentle reminder that you can subscribe to various tiers for bonus articles, extra site functionality, and as a way to show your support for the work that goes into the newsletter and site in general. I'd really appreciate it if you do:
