Flittle, the Frill Pokémon, has debuted in Pokémon Go as part of May 2026's 'Spring Marathon' event.
The Gen 9 Psychic-type can be found from two sources during the event, one of which is a (likely temporary) refresh to the 5km Egg pool. Once caught, you can then evolve it into Espathra through Candy alone.
This page explains how to get Flittle in Pokémon Go, what a shiny Flittle looks like when it eventually arrives, and how to get more Flittle Candy to help you power one up.
How to get Flittle in Pokémon Go's 'Spring Marathon' event
There are two ways to get Flittle in its Pokémon Go debut:
- Hatching 5km Eggs
- 'Spring Marathon' Go Pass ranks 19, 30 and 60 (in both free and Deluxe tracks, so three for free and six total for paying players)

This means, during the 'Spring Marathon' event, the only guaranteed source is through the Go Pass, provided you progress far enough before it ends on Monday, 18th May at 8pm local time. Thankfully, there's a few ranks that reaching it with some playtime should be doable. (Remember, the daily cap for progressing ranks lifts from the Saturday.)
Otherwise, hatching 5 km Eggs is your focus. Make sure you are hatching those collected after the event starts however: if unsure, you can check what's included before you use an Incubator.
How to get evolution Espathra in Pokémon Go
The evolution method from Flittle to Espathra in Pokémon Go is straightforward: just have 50 Flittle Candy. You can see suggestions on how to gain more Flittle Candy later in the article.
Can Flittle be shiny in Pokémon Go?
No, Flittle can not be shiny in Pokémon Go. It's rare for new debuts to be shiny immediately - though April's Orthworm is a recent exception to that - and we imagine it'll be at least a year before Flittle gets such treatment.
In the meantime, here's what shiny Flittle and evolution Espathra look like:

How to get more Flittle Candy in Pokémon Go
Evolving Flittle into Espathra requires just 50 Candy, but since you cannot catch one outside of 5km Eggs and the Go Pass, learning how to source more without dipping into your Rare Candy supplies is ideal. Here's a few ways to do that:
- Use a Pinap Berry and have a Psychic-type Mega Evolution active while catching (Go Pass only)
- Have Flittle as your Buddy Pokémon (it'll drop Candy every 3km)
- Transfer any caught Flittle you don't want to keep
- Trade any caught Flittle you don't want to keep
With the above methods, a Flittle goes a long way. (Apologies.)
