Pokémon Go's 'Spring Marathon' event features Timed Research with a singular goal - to travel the distance of a marathon.

Starting from Tuesday, 12th May at 10am until Monday, 18th May at 8pm, players have to walk or run 42km - or 26.2 miles - across the week to complete the quest, which unlocks a new Pikachu wearing a marathon visor costume.

On this page is the sole 'Spring Marathon' Timed Research quest step, and why for costume Pikachu completionists, reaching the finish line is pretty important.

Marathon visor Pikachu isn't the only new debut in the event - there's also the arrival of Flittle and Espathra in Pokémon Go.

Is there another way to get Pikachu with a marathon visor in the 'Spring Marathon' event?

There is not - the above Timed Research is the only source of the marathon visor Pikachu. That means for shiny hunters, you have just a single chance to get one this week, unless someone out there is willing to trade you theirs.

That said, it's very possible this costumed Pikachu will return in future events, such as a 2027 version of the 'Spring Marathon' event. And like other event-specific costumed Pokémon that return in future years, there tends to be more opportunities to encounter one if you are after a shiny in particular.

(This is speculation based on how Pokémon Go has operated in the past, of course, but it's all to say you'll likely have another shot at a marathon visor Pikachu one day.)

Best of luck with the'Spring Marathon' research, as well as getting Flittle and Espathra before the week is out. You can learn more the 'Spring Marathon' event and other updates this week as part of our 'This Week In Pokémon Go' video podcast and newsletter.
