How does Aniimo use AI?

AI has been used for non-generative purposes and some now-pulled marketing, according to the developer.

As with all new games, speculation about Aniimo's possible AI use has been a topic of discussion as it approached launch.

Here's what we know: Aniimo's Steam page doesn't feature an AI disclosure, and developer Pawprint Studio has confirmed AI was not used to create assets or design the world - though it has been used in a non-generative capacity during development for things like testing.

There's also been a case where AI was used in marketing - which the developers have subsequently rolled back - as well as the news it'll support an upcoming NVIDIA feature for more natural creature interactions via a "locally-hosted" model.

Let's delve into each of these one-by-one so you can understand Aniimo's AI use in full.

Has Aniimo used AI in its development?

The official Aniimo Discord hosts semi-regular Q&As with the team, and in January 2026, the topic of whether AI has been used was brought up.

The response says that while AI was not used in the creation of the world or for creature designs - "we believe that people will only love something that comes from human hands, not artificial ones" - it was used in "several ways" elsewhere in development, with testing given as one example.

Here's the quote from the developer Q&A in full:

Q5: Was AI implemented during the development of Aniimo?

This has been brought up a few times especially by newer fans in the discord and the great Toe Bean Debate 2026™, but at the moment the community only has the overall sense of goodwill and the current Steam page not containing any of the AI disclosure if it did use certain ones, to go by, as there are no official statements either way from the team right now. Tools for tasks such as coding and bug fixing to help staff I don’t think are under any scrutiny, but I think a lot of folk would feel reassured knowing if and how generative AI specifically is going to be in the game in the form of in-game art, creature designs, voices & story line etc or not.

We will keep answering this since we understand people are concerned about AI design and it is a sensitive topic. We believe that people will only love something that comes from human hands, not artificial ones, and our development team at Pawprint Studio is full of very talented humans! Every Aniimo and the world of Idyll are very special to us in their unique way. AI will NOT be used to design our Aniimo, nor will any AI prototypes be used in Idyll. AI is now helping us in several ways (e.g. testing) but it's not imagining the world of Aniimo for us.

How else has Aniimo used AI?

Outside of developing the game, there has been a case in July 2026 where AI ads were used to promote Aniimo on Instagram before being pulled by the developer along with an apology.

Here's an excerpt from the official Aniimo reddit account which posted a statement:

We're truly sorry for the disappointment and frustration these advertisements caused. The means via which they were produced are absolutely not representative of how we are making the game itself. The advertisements have been removed from all of our channels, although some examples persist due to technical limitations that are beyond our control. Even if they remain visible, they have already been disabled and are no longer running as active advertisements. Thank you for holding us accountable and for continuing to share your honest feedback.

We'll continue working to ensure our future communications better reflect the quality and values behind Aniimo.

Aniimo's NVIDIA ACE support

Finally, Aniimo will make use of an upcoming NVIDIA feature, NVIDIA ACE, in early 2027, allowing players can interact with creatures through voice commands, which will then respond with "dynamic emotions" in kind.

The feature will use a "locally-hosted, fine-tuned Nemotron Small Language Model (SLM)", according to NVIDIA, suggesting it will only operate on the player's device and not in the cloud using an LLM (Large Language Model).

Here's the announcement from gamescom 2026 with more details:

Instead of navigating traditional menus, players will interact with their Aniimo using natural language. Chat with them, teach them new skills, and dispatch them to gather resources via voice inputs. Each Aniimo will display dynamic emotions based on player responses, fostering a more authentic and meaningful connection with the creatures that live and work alongside you.

The NVIDIA ACE integration is powered by a locally-hosted, fine-tuned Nemotron Small Language Model (SLM) running on a player’s GPU. This powers each Aniimo's intelligence, allowing them to interpret player intent and trigger in-game behavior APIs for realistic actions and reactions.
