A homebrew adaptor that allows original Game Boy Advance hardware and modern Switch games to connect for Pokémon trading and battling will be released later this year.

The RetroSync Wireless Adapter will enable Game Boy Advance games Pokémon FireRed, LeafGreen and Emerald to connect to the Switch versions of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen through in-game wireless features, without any hardware or software modifications to either system.

After being revealed with a video back in September, developer Drewworks has announced the hardware will go on sale in early December for around $50.

An FAQ on the website lists it will support firmware updates "for future improvements and expanded compatibility", though as a non-Nintendo affiliated product, notes that Switch updates could impact how the device works and cannot guarantee permanent compatibility - though Drewworks will endeavour to restore functionality where possible.

It's also unknown whether Pokémon traded from Game Boy Advance can be then uploaded to Pokémon Home when Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen support launches next week on 7th October.

Drewworks's previous effort was the GC Force Multi-Adapter, which allows four GameCube consoles (or more) to be played with a single controller.
