MOBA game Pokémon Unite is to reach end of service on both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices in March 2027, The Pokémon Company has announced.
Revealed on the game's official site, players will no longer be able to log in or battle other players from Tuesday, 23rd March. As such, the ability to purchase in-game currencies and memberships will be suspended immediately.
However, a special event will take place from Thursday, 12th November, which will also introduce a new 'library' feature to allow players to obtain previously released items like Unite licences and Holowear, as well as player records, to then 'review' once servers have closed. A single player Practice Arena will also be available. You can read more about how it all works here.
While Pokémon Unite was previously revealed to no longer feature at future Pokémon Championships events, this year's Pokémon Unite Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo competitive tournament will also go ahead as previously planned.
No reason was given for the closure, but a statement offered the publisher's "sincerest gratitude to the many Trainers who have played since service started for the Nintendo Switch version".
Pokémon Unite is a MOBA, a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena game similar to the likes of Valve's DOTA and Riot's League of Legends, which sees two teams of up to five players compete against one another. It debuted on Nintendo Switch in 2021, and achieved over 70 million downloads across all platforms by April the following year.
Update (9:21am UK time): Changed the header image to a different colour, and added mention of a local Practice mode that will be introduced with the 'library' update.
