Roco Kingdom, the online creature-collecting game from Morefun Studios and Tencent, is playable ahead of release for those with a closed beta invite from today (27th October).

I've uploaded my first 80 minutes with the game, showing early tutorials, various character introductions (including a scholarly owl named Mr. Hoolu), turn-based battles and, of course, that all-important starter choice. (I went for the 𝖦̶𝗋̶𝖺̶𝗌̶𝗌̶-̶𝗍̶𝗒̶𝗉̶𝖾̶ Flora-class pick, obviously.)

If you want to know more about what Roco Kingdom is, I wrote a piece for Mobilegamer.biz about Morefun's plan for the franchise - which has seen some considerable success in China since its debut as a web game in 2010 - and how it's attempting to crack a global audience with this new PC, console and mobile instalment launching next year. And yes, for the cross-play and cross-platform sickos, as an online game that's supported from the off:

Tencent-owned Morefun wants to make Roco Kingdom a Pokémon-sized hit in the west
Morefun, the Tencent studio behind Arena Breakout: Infinite, debuted Roco Kingdom in the west at Gamescom – and has big plans for the game’s launch in 2027.

As mentioned in the piece, there's going to be at least one more closed beta - so if you didn't get in this time, there will be another shot. My guide for the Roco Kingdom closed beta test will explain how the application process works.

Beta access supplied by Morefun Studios.
