After months of datamines and a recent tease through merchandise, it's official: Mega Mewtwo will see its two Mega Evolutions appear at Pokémon Go Fest 2026.

Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y will debut during the summer's in-person Go Fest events, starting in Tokyo on 29th May, as part of branching Timed Research, as well as during a Super Mega Raid encounter with support for over one thousand other Trainers at the end of each park session.

They will be later available to all players during the Go Fest: Global weekend of 11th and 12th July, where it can be fought in Super Mega Raids throughout the weekend, with additional Mega Energy available in Timed Research.

Additionally, all Mega Mewtwo caught over the Global weekend will have at least one Mega Level already unlocked, and has a chance of being Mega Level 2 or 3 - meaning, either way, it requires no additional Energy to Mega Evolve. You can also opt to Mega Evolve previously caught Mewtwos if you prefer.

Finally, Mega Mewtwo will also usher in updates to Pokémon Go's Mega Evolution process, with the ability to use extra Mega Energy to progress through Mega Levels without the cooldown.

Additionally, any Pokémon with multiple Mega Evolutions will require unique Mega Energy per branch to evolve going forward, including Mega Charizard. (In Charizard's case, you will be rewarded an equal amount of X and Y Mega Energy based on your current reserves when this change kicks in, and will be then have to gain either X or Y Mega Energy by fighting the corresponding version in raids.)

In other news, Go Fest Global will be free for the first time this year - and run for an additional hour per day.
